This just fresh this morning, I think this is a wise decision to further delay the Commericial Lobster Fishing Season based on the current Virus and the current Market for Lobsters....This was well thought out ...........
Major lobster processors in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, along with the Maritime Fishermen’s Union (MFU), have called on federal and provincial governments to instruct the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to further delay the opening of the commercial lobster fishing season.
The season is set to open on May 1. The MFU is requesting DFO delay the season until at least May 15 or cancel it entirely depending on the safety and market conditions, while the lobster processors want to see reviews conducted every two weeks to determine the viability of opening the season.
Passionate About The Weather “………
Well its just another new day in Martinvale and it’s a cold one but no winds to speak currently……- 17 here this morning………The Issue of Weather …is a journey through living for me…….Perhaps my early days at 8 years old I had this awe of weather….and what would bring this to the front in this discourse this morning, is of a great hymn that has been heard by generations in our home “ How Great Thou Art “……Being a young lad and loving music at an early age due to family being musical on my moms side…….We were listen to Hymns at Church and at home…….so as I got older and would carry picture in my mind of the smallness of us in looking at our planet and how small we really were…….
At a young age our Home on Water Street in Georgetown was right on the Harbour shore…..30 feet from the house going South was our beach….manys a walk their and still do from time to time I have watched the changes in tides and erosion….and always looking for some “ new treasure “ that might have washed up on the tides and storms as they visited through the seasons………The Sea fascinated me and also early gardening with my mom and having gardening classes in Georgetown during the spring and early June prior to planting…….So The Weather has consquences for those who “ Go down to the Sea for their vacations and their Livilihood Seamen“ and those who “ Till the Soils, our Farmers, who grow and raise crops and herds of animals……… “
I was reading around the age of 8 to 13 a lot of different Library books in Georgetown Library, after school and on weekends , I was a “ Book Worm” and that remained with me to this date…….and I would listen and read on about Storms and Floods in all Seasons ……of course no cameras like today…..so my memory would store the “ Readings “….My father had a “ Weather Eye “ He always looked at the sky in the morning and he would predict the day at sea the day before by using the Rising and Setting of the Sun…….” Red Sky in the Morning , Sailors take Warning “……..Red Sky at night ( sunsets ) Sailors Delight ………Now at that age to my knowledge their was no Science available to me or no Rube Hornstien’s or Peter Coade …..both at difference times of employment as Meteoroligists were the best in Canada at one time…….Hornstien from my 13 years of age caught me on radio and Peter Coade from my 40’s to just 5 years ago retired…….
When I was 15 I “ drew up charts on lined paper and columns and started to write down Day time Temps , Night time temps, High and Low Tides , the fishers of that day would tell me by their understanding of the position of the moon , for example the middle of the moon the new moon and the waning moon…….Even theromentars were rare in houses….In the Winters they had certain times that based on “ The old folks and “ back in them days “ Feb/March were the Snowiest and Windy’st of the winters on average………For many people even today perhaps do not remember or recall that the majority of our Rain and Rain for wells as well as the land to refurbish to Spring acvity …..The Carolina Lows….which begin in warm waters of Florida and move up the Coast they would be our Spring and Fall South Easters and normally in that time it would be a 2 day event , the Front of the storm, East To South East and come called in “ Real Snorter of a Storm and The Back side of the Storm which would produce West to NorthWest Gales and clearing …….then All is Calm !!!!!!
I had no information on US Weather and only snippets of Western Canada weather by radio but when we received our first TV in 1958 , Black and White, A big picture of an First Nations Chief , then the beginning of the New Information Age was at our door !!!........So this is part of the journey for me , my fascination began to widen……….The Farmers Almanac next……….Thank you………for asking.:) Chester
