It was late afternoon on March 21st, and the 6th day of social distancing for Hannah, her son Rowan and her Sister Evelyn.
Everyone was feeling tense from being cooped up together, so they piled in the car and took the 5 minute drive from their home in Wood Islands to Pantings Shore Beach. Luckily, when they arrived there wasn't a soul in sight.
The sound of the enormous chunks of ice being slowly pushed and pulled by the tide was mesmerizing, and the sun was just about to dip below the horizon.
Rowan played in the sand, finding rocks, shells and otherwise exploring in the focused way a three year old does.
" I consider myself very lucky to live on such a beautiful Island, and as difficult as these past few weeks have been for everyone, I think it's important to relish in the simple pleasures, especially at a time like this. We have to keep our chins up, take advantage of the time we have, and remember to breathe. It was such a peaceful moment that helped me reset, and I'm so grateful that I got to share it with my sister and son.
In the summer we go to that beach so often it's practically a second home; to see it this time of year was interesting. It was cold and felt very different than it usually does, but I know that in a few months the tide will shake off its chill, the sand will warm and it will be filled with people. We just need to be patient until then. "
